Peyton's 9th birthday fell on the first day of school this year, so we choose to celebrate with a few friends the weekend before. Choosing a theme was tough this year, as Peyton has a few passions right now. After crossing off both a Star Wars and Harry Potter theme, he eventually settled on Pokemon. This was a surprisingly fun theme and we both enjoyed planning his Pokemon party!
Also an avid Pokemon fan, the Papa Murphy's pizza maker, was pumped to make a poke ball pizza and even gave Peyton a free dessert pizza and root beer. This made his day! Peyton chose colored fruits, veggies and snacks to match each of the Energy cards and I made Peyton's favorite mint chocolate chip ice cream cake. Covered with whipped cream, this was also easily transformed into a poke ball. Unfortunately, it was such a warm day and it served more like ice-cream soup!
The boys mostly enjoyed running around outside and being together. To help channel their energy, Peyton had his guests each make a catapult and their very own poke ball (ping-pong ball). Once assembled, they enjoyed somewhat controlled mayhem! It was later reported that they enjoyed shooting at me (armed with marshmallows!) best! I may have encouraged this!!
Finally, to cool off before sending the (wet) boys home, we armed them with water balloons.
On his actual birthday, I picked Peyton up after school and took him to The Valley to swim and BBQ with the family. Birthdays, end of summer, first day of school, friends, family...We had a lot to celebrate.
Happy 9th Birthday, Peyton!
