Peyton's class is wrapping up a math unit on fractions. What better way to celebrate this accomplishment than by using fractions in real life? Earlier in the week, Peyton's teacher, Mr. Pearce, invited parents to help out during baking day. When we arrived to class this morning, Mr. Pearce had written out the muffin recipe on the board. However, this was no ordinary recipe. Before each group of students could mix their ingredients, they had to solve fraction problems to determine exactly how much of each ingredient to add. To further challenge/inspire his students, he provided only 2 measuring utensils: 1/4 cup and 1/4 teaspoon! Some problems were more challenging than others. All in all, I think the class would agree, learning is fun!
I especially enjoyed working with this clever and capable group of 5th grade boys.
