Now that Peyton is in school all day, it is hard to find time for extra-curricular activities during the week. His bus doesn't drop him off until 4:15 in the afternoon. Our afternoon is rushed as it is to get him home, get dinner made and served, do and end-of-the day clean-up (optional, as of late - you should see this place some times!) and compete our night-time routine by our early 7:30ish bedtime. So, squeezing pumping carving in mid-week was a challenge. As it was, we made carving pumpkins a multi-evening project this year. On Wednesday, we barely had the time and energy to bring the pumpkins indoors, clean them up and draw their pumpkin faces. Tonight, we challenged our patience and the clock once again to turn those 3 pumpkins into Jack-O-Lantern personalities. While it was a delicate operation this year (a balancing act between joyful participation and the inevitable end-of-the-day frustrations and tears), it was still (mostly) fun. The pictures are proof that there were more smiles than tears. All in all, pumpkin carving night has become quite the memorable family tradition around our house.
