Steve is one of many local dentists who donate their time, skill, compassion and resources to the Olympia Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinic. The clinic cannot keep it's doors open year after year with it's limited staff and only the generosity of local dentists. Annually, they organize a benefits concert that is comprised of members of the dental community, as well as local performers (musicians, dancers etc...), who also donate their time and energy to provide the community with an entertaining and fun-filled evening, to raise money for the clinic itself.
With a few exceptions, Steve has participated in the concert as one of Olympia's very own singing dentists, many times in the past 9 years that we've lived here. Depending on the year, preparations for the concert begin months in advance and rehearsal time can be all-consuming. However, Steve loves the opportunity to sing and dance, especially for a cause he believes in whole-heartedly.
As the kids are older and more aware, they have come to love "rehearsing" with Steve, learning his songs right along with him. Last year, Peyton was allowed to attend the actual concert and LOVED every minute. He sang along, loud and clear, from his seat in the audience. This year, Allison was thrilled to finally have a chance to dress-up in a "beautiful princess gown" and join us at the theater. Despite the fact that both kids were exhausted (the show didn't begin until after our regular bedtime), they were captivated and engaged in the performance - especially when daddy was on stage.
Here are the kids giddy with excitement before this years show: OUGM Concert 2014.
