The original plan, I think, involved elaborate plans for the guys to hit the back country and enjoy some combination of skiing and kite boarding. Due to Steve's frequent weekend absences, a compromise was made, the weekend would instead become a family visit to Anacortes, but would also include an outing to a snow park complete with some "boys only" play time. As the weekend approached, Steve's nagging shoulder pain made it necessary to alter the weekend plan yet again. So, our Anacortes weekend became just that, a weekend hanging out in Anacortes.
We enjoyed a quiet walk to a local coffee shop early Saturday morning, while Luke and Cheri slept. Our timing had us crossing paths with numerous snails on a morning outing of their own. I've never seen so many snails at one time! After admiring them up close, and observing that they were as slow as everyone says, we decided to mark their progress on our return trip. Either we stayed at the coffee shop a lot longer than we thought, or snails are quicker than we believed them to be. I guess the old saying, "slow and steady wins the race" is true. A few of our markers were rediscovered, but not a single snail.
Much of our time was spent visiting Luke at his new CrossFit gym for both fitness and fun. Luke tested Steve and I with an entry level workout on Sunday afternoon. This was a humbling experience after watching a couple of shockingly intense and seriously ripped women rock their workout ahead of us. The kids also enjoyed the chance to expel a bit of energy running around and enjoyed a workout of their own making.
We even braved the strong winds (between rain showers) and ventured across the street to enjoy some beach time. It was the perfect kite flying weather. Peyton enjoyed a chance to finally try his hand at flying a kite. I know Uncle Luke had a different kind of kite flying on his mind, but the weekend wasn't a total wash in my book. My kids adored their time with Uncle Luke and Aunt Cheri and enjoyed making memories of sleep overs, snail walks, gym excursions, beach time and kite flying in Anacortes.
Back to back weekend excursions sure does make the time fly and the laundry pile high! It was worth the effort and all the extra laundry to enjoy some quality family time. Seattle the previous weekend, Anacortes this last weekend. I kind of wonder what this weekend has in store for us?
