On July 4th we headed out of town early in the day to maximize our time with family. Ben and Jen invited the whole family down to relax, unwind, play and celebrate. We kicked off the affair with a birthday celebration for Walker (who had turned 6 in late June). My kids surprised us by willingly taking a break from the festivities long enough to each have a nice long nap in the afternoon. Then, we had another (brief) birthday celebration for Wyatt (who turned 2 in early June). Being that it was the 4th of July, we enjoyed an evening of American's finest traditions: BBQ, ice cream, fireworks and a camp out (well, let's be honest, the dad's and big kids slept out in the field in tents). Peyton was determined to keep up with his cousins and I'm not sure anything was going to keep him from staying up until dark to see the fireworks. He had his mind set on it and up he stayed. Way. Past. His. Bedtime.
It was great to see both kids interact with each cousin. They are all more interactive, comfortable being around each other and fun to watch engage and respond to one another. Often, Peyton has enjoyed the companionship of the girls (Savannah and Gracie). This trip he found some common interests with Jasper and especially enjoyed quality time with Walker. By noon the next day, we were all pretty exhausted. Once we catch up on sleep and fall back into our normal routines, I know this weekend will be a wonderful family memory that will get talked about for months to come. We all had a fun time at Ben and Jen's house!
