Immediately following this family decision, Peyton ran to get his "blueprint" (a specific colored page in a coloring book that he routinely refers to as his "plan" or more recently "blueprint"). I was surprised that this time he deviated from his usual building dialog when reading his plans for family fort night. Usually we start with a "sturdy foundation" or some other regurgitated building jargon. Not on Friday. This time he shared that, "It says, 'the first thing we need to do is put on some music to listen to while we build,'" (Really? It says that? Ok. After some debate, we settled on Elmo music "to get the job done."). Then, Peyton ran to get his blocks and Steve ran to get his tent. Clearly there was a difference in opinion over what building a fort meant. Fortunately, once Peyton got past reading step one on his blueprint he was quickly drawn into Steve's plan. After all, building a tent fort delivers promising results as compared to the much talked about, highly anticipated, and yet to be erected, block fort of Peyton's fantasy.

Family Fort Night
Friday night was stormy and marked the end of a very long and exhausting week. This family needed a bit of a pick-me-up to get us through the night and jump start the weekend. What do you do when you need a bit of family fun? Build a fort, of course!
