First Weekend Away

August 25-26:  Our first weekend away without the kids was really whittled down to just a little more than 24 hours.  We had a wedding at Suncadia Resort to attend and while it was a child friendly venue and celebration, we decided not to bring our little ones on such a whirlwind tour.  Instead, we dropped them off in North Bend with Uncle Gavin, Aunt Hazel and Cousin Ella, who took them on a hike (Twin Lakes) before taking them back to their home for the slumber party.

We enjoyed the break from our kiddos and the chance to do a bit of socializing with friends we hadn't seen in a long while.  We spent a fair amount of time dancing at the reception and adored our time the next morning with The Alstons.

I didn't take a single picture of us.  I did get my camera out almost immediately after we were reunited with our children, of course.  Was it nice to have a night off?  Absolutely.  It probably made their smiling faces, happy chatter and sweet little kisses better than ever.

We received an A+ report from both ends.  The Aunt and Uncle report:  Peyton hiked most, if not all of the 2 miles up hill to the lake.  Then, eager to get a jump start on the next day made an unpersuasive attempt to get Uncle Gavin up to make pancakes at 4am.  With some encouragement he went back to sleep for a few extra hours before he got to see those pancakes!  Allie, was apparently very easy, ate a lot of food and much to the surprise of everyone, went down for a late afternoon nap and didn't wake up until the next morning!  Peyton's report (which lasted for several days):  He had a really fun time and his favorite things were...going to the sandbox park, pancakes, digging at the sandbox park, the new couch bed, the trail mix snack, the pig tent, playing at the sandbox park...

Thank you Gavin, Hazel and Ella for taking such good care of Peyton and Allison, while we took a little time for ourselves!
