Mother Nature did not disappoint. More snow fell. A lot more snow! We woke up Wednesday morning and it was immediately clear that we had another BIG day of snow ahead of us. There was so much snow that work was canceled. Steve got a snow day, too! It was just as exciting for us big kids as it was for Peyton. In fact, when I was up in the middle of the night, I peeked out the window to see the snow quietly falling. I was almost too excited to sleep. I spent the next several hours fitfully resting. Wondering how much it would snow. Hoping for lots of snow. Imagining Peyton's look of amazement. Then, it was music to my ears when I heard Peyton's little footsteps pitter-patter down the hall in the morning. He looked out the sliding glass window en route to our room and much to his surprise and delight there was more snow than his little mind could even have imagined. Peyton: "Oh, wow! Guys! The snow is piled up outside. This is so much fun!!" It was remarkable.

All our eyes were glued to the windows as we went about our morning. We just couldn't take our eyes off the falling snow. It was mesmerizing and magical. Snow is not so unusual around here. This much snow is almost unbelievable. As predicted, we got the kind of snow storm that we'll be talking about for years.

The view from our garage as we eagerly bundled up for our big outing.

There was really too much snow to walk. Snow shoes were a necessity.

Check! Good thing we each have a pair. They were perfect!

Steve and Peyton heading out on our journey to the nearby park.

I had to stop every few feet to take a picture or two (or ten).

A picture doesn't do our surroundings justice, but it was really a remarkable site every where you looked.

This was Allison's first outing in the backpack and just like her big brother, the backpack almost immediately lulled her to sleep. She was a great adventurer, only placing a complaint when we stopped moving to eat a snack.

Steve got quite the workout - packing Allison and at times, pulling Peyton plus the 20 pounds of heavy, wet snow that kept piling on the sled.

No one had ventured much beyond their homes, let alone neighborhoods. It was marvelous. We had the park all to ourselves and the snow was untouched.

We arrived at the perfect place to rest by the river.

And arrived home just in time for lunch and a nap. It was the perfect day.
Our mountain adventure was once again available to us with all the comforts of home and no fuss or commute. It was a welcome distraction to the post-holiday blahs, an nice little adventure, which we'd been seeking, a welcome breath of fresh air and exercise, which had become a necessity, and change of pace mid-week from our usual routine. If only our snow day could last forever, or at least one more day...
