Peyton's 6th Birthday:  Magic Tree House Party

Peyton's enthusiasm for The Magic Tree House books, by Mary Pope Osborne, (and the addition of a backyard play house this summer) was the inspiration for his birthday party this year.  This was a really fun idea and we both enjoyed planning for his party.  I loved seeing him interact and play with his friends during the party, with such confidence and joy (especially after starting Kindergarten this week - a week filled with so many new and challenging experiences, people and routines).  He was so happy to be with his special friends, celebrating his special day.

Before the big day we did some party planning, including making his party invitations.  I initially thought I would illustrate Peyton's invitations and have him color them. Since I am not an artist, and Peyton is becoming quite skilled in his art, we decided it best that he make his invitation.  Best idea ever!  It turned out great and we were both very proud of it.

Special friends and eager party goers invited on an adventure, with Jack and Annie, in the Magic Tree House today.

Peyton's Magic Tree House game:  Pin the rungs on the ladder.

Their first challenge was to build the ladder up to the tree house.

Once the ladder was completed, they were able to venture out to the Magic Tree House.

Peyton and friends listened carefully to learn what their mission of the day would be.  Just like the book, as soon as the mission was revealed, the strangest thing happened:  "The wind started to blow.  The tree house started to spin.  It spun faster and faster.  Then everything was still.  Absolutely still."  These were no longer just kids at a party.  These were kids on Magic Tree House adventure with Jack and Annie!

These brave and clever friends worked together, searching high and low, inside and out, solving riddles and rhymes.

In the end, they earned their Master Librarian Cards for a job well done.  
Also, as Peyton opened his birthday present from each friend, each friend in turn, opened a present from Peyton.  Everyone went home with their very own Magic Tree House book and bookmark.
Mission complete! 

Hungry from magical adventures, it was time for cupcakes. 

(And maybe time for a nap, too).

While I had a very clever cupcake idea, I was not up to the task of bringing it to life.  These cupcakes don't compare to the picture in my mind, but they were cute, tasty and easy (for me!).  Thank you, Miss Moffett's Mystical Cupcakes.

Happy 6th Birthday, Peyton!  You fill our life with one magical adventure after another.  We love you!
