Backyard Campout

7th Annual Barnes Family Camping Weekend
Backyard Campout at The Russells
August 1-2, 2015

Traditionally, we would have gone camping to a state park during the summer.  We even gave the idea lots of thought.  Given the major life events that have taken place over the past few weeks, we modified our expectations.  The Barnes family drove to us this year and we enjoyed a camp-like weekend in our very own backyard.  While far from settled, our new house is starting to feel like home.  Having overnight guests was enjoyable and gave us practice in actually using the space we now have.  We included all the camping must-dos in our weekend and still enjoyed outdoor adventures (swimming pool, and paddle boarding in the Puget Sound).  There was plenty of fun had by all!  Perhaps this will be the new annual tradition?!

Swimming:
Shannon and the kids sitting pool-side at The Valley.
Silly girls "Down the bay"
Camp Site:
The kids all fell asleep together in the tent, but we moved them inside.  Only Darren slept outside all night long.  You could find the rest of us snoozing indoors, some in sleeping bags on the floor.  I opted for my own cozy bed!
Bon Fire:
It isn't camping without a fire and s'mores!
Quality Time with Good Friends:
We traded the camp chairs for our cushioned loungers this year.
