Spring Sports

Last month, Peyton wrapped up a challenging, but fun soccer season.  Team Dynamite has played together for several seasons and is starting to work together like a well oiled machine.  They played some tough teams and faced several physical and mental challenges this year.  Determined, they played their best, week after week.  It was fun to see their teamwork come together.  On and off the field, the boys are beginning to encourage and support one another.  They also faced the test of sportsmanship and fairness.  This is a challenge for players, coaches and parents, alike.  Still, I was proud of the team for staying positive and not giving up.  We are so thankful for the opportunity to play on this team and for the little community it has become.

It is interesting how challenging situations seem to reveal a person's true character and I am so impressed with your character!  You gave 100% at practice and games, continued to rise above the awful sportsmanship of some of our opponents (never stooping to their level) and you were a positive leader on this team.  I am so proud of you - Great season!   Coach Brian"

Allison decided to try baseball this spring.  Her season, with The Red Hawks, ended last Saturday.  A few kids played baseball last year, but many of the kids, like Allison, did not.  In fact, until her first practice, Allison wasn't interested in playing catch, or swinging a bat.  Yet, she insisted for weeks (months, really) that she wanted to play baseball this year...until the week before her first practice...then she was adamant that she did NOT want to play baseball.  We had several discussions and she admitted that she would feel disappointed if she didn't at least try.  So, she revised her plan.  She would go to the first practice.  That's it.  No more.  She was timid, but put forth a great effort at her first practice.  She had fun.  She felt proud.  She accomplished her revised plan.  She was ready to quit.  We had several more discussions, following the first practice, and after a long, anxious week, filled with big emotions and big meltdowns, we arrived at the first (very rainy) game.  Once again, she gave it her all, despite the rain and (dis)organized chaos.  Mentally preparing for more discussion, and uncertain about my stance on the quit/don't quit argument, Allison surprised me.  I didn't hear another word about quitting the rest of the season.  She didn't just survive, she did great, and had fun!  I am so proud of her for trying something new and sticking with it despite her fear and uncertainty.  It was scary and it was hard, but Allison, you are brave and capable.  You CAN do hard things.
