If you would have asked me 15 months ago if a visit to Chuck E. Cheese was in our future? I probably would have replied, "Fat chance." That was before we were invited to our friend Gabe's 5th birthday party, which as luck would have it, was being celebrated at Chuck E. Cheeses. So, yesterday afternoon, Peyton and I bravely stepped foot inside said destination and had ourselves a lovely, googly eye, kind of afternoon.
There were flashing lights, giant animated characters, t.v. screens, gleeful noises and kids everywhere we looked. Pretty much everything we've sheltered our almost 15 month old away from. Stunned at first, Peyton quickly warmed up to his surroundings and loved it. We played on the slide, rode of a few rides MANY times and true to Peyton's style, met and loved on MANY new friends.
The hour and a half we spent there passed quickly for both of us. In the end we were both so over stimulated and exhausted, we were ready to climb into the car and head home to Daddy who was anxiously awaiting our arrival. Peyton "talked" the whole way home in the back seat of the car and then almost hit "meltdown" status once home (it was now way passed bed time). Daddy steered our boy quickly and skillfully towards bed, avoiding said "meltdown" and instead ending our day the way it began, peacefully and quietly - as if it was just another "regular" day.
Thanks, Gabe, for the invite to your party and the experience it provided us. We hope you enjoyed your birthday. We sure did!
